Not many would think of comparing the execution of Jesus Christ with those who suffered execution during the Holocaust. However, an artist in the Desert in Southern Israel has created a sculpture that depicts this very thing, and he is receiving very passionate responses to it by the Israeli Jews who have viewed it. This documentary, by film maker Christy Peters, explores the message of the sculpture, which attempts to open up a dialogue about historical Jewish suffering and the Jewish Christ’s compassion and identification with it.
The discussion is facilitated through historical documentation, contemporary footage and first person interviews. The subjects interviewed include the artist of the sculpture, an Orthodox Jewish Executive for the Center for Jewish-Christian Understanding and Cooperation and a secular Jewish woman who is on the board of directors of Yad Vashem and whose parents were Holocaust survivors; both who survived the Warsaw Ghetto, the work-camps, Auschwitz-Birkenau AND the death marches.
